Cuts

The cartoon depicts a white female in a self propelled wheelchair and an Asian male with a crutch standing on a rickety wooden bridge. The slats of the bridge have words that include education, welfare, NHS, Civil Services, and University Places printed upon them. A hand holding a large knife appears in the picture at each end of the bridge and is cutting through the support ropes. The woman is reading a newspaper that carries news about the current government cuts. She is saying: " Well, at least they don't seem to have made any cuts that will effect us!"

He is saying to the young man whilst patting his hand: "So all you have to do when I answer the reporter's questions is to just nod ... OK?!"

The people represent a cross section of society with a mix of gender, age, race and culture. Written across the wall below each row of windows is the following statement: “It is estimated that over 56,000 of the country’s prison inmates are affected by two or more mental health issues.”

The disabled man is holding the end of a tape measure which is measuring the distance from the road surface to the top of the kerb. The workman in the road is saying to them: "If I’d known you were going to be that fussy …!"
